Balochistan Think Tank Network, organized a four-day capacity-building workshop from October 3 to 6, 2022, on Physics and Mechanics of Nuclear Technology and its Applications. Dr. Ansar Parvez, former Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), presided the workshop.

The workshop was based on a mixture of lectures, debates, discussion and quizzes which proved to be of great importance insofar as knowledge and capacity building is concerned. The Faculty Members, who attended the workshop, were informed of the heretofore unknown and lesser-known aspects of peaceful and military uses of nuclear technology. The workshop was divided into 8 modules such as:

• Module 1: Atom, Nuclear and Nuclear Radiations
• Module 2: Nuclear Reactions
• Module 3: Nuclear Fission and Fusion
• Module 4: Nuclear Reactor Systems
• Module 5: Nuclear Safety and Security
• Module 6: Nuclear Fuel Cycle
• Module 7: Little Boy and Fat Man
• Module 8: Nuclear Safeguards

The workshop proved to be very educative. Having been on the staff of the premier institutions dealing with Nuclear Technology within Pakistan and abroad, Dr. Parvez provided useful insights into the multi-faceted dimensions of Nuclear Technology. The Faculty of Research at BTTN expressed their gratitude to Dr. Parvez for his efforts. The workshop ended with the Head of BTTN issuing a note of thanks to Dr. Parvez and presenting him with souvenirs on behalf of the BTTN.
