Capacity Building Talk on Offshore Tax Havens - Ali Changezi

Date: October 18, 2022

On October 18, 2022, Research Assistant at BTTN, Mr. Ali Changezi, delivered a capacity building talk on Offshore Companies and Tax Havens, their role in perpetuating financial fraud, corruption, and expropriation of public wealth by corrupt government officials. The talk was based on a documentary titled, “The Spider’s Web: Britain’s Second Empire”. The talk dealt with several aspects of how offshore companies and tax havens operated including the role of Britain and the City of London in enabling the functionality of the system, how the rich businessmen around the world evade paying taxes on the billions of dollars they earn, how corrupt government officials steal public funds, funnel it to offshore tax havens without leaving behind any money trail, and how the Western world, who are the sustainers of such systems, benefit financially and economically at the expense of the poor developing nations. The Talk was educative and enlightened the Faculty of Research about the secret arrangements of the offshore financial world. The talk was followed by a Q&A session and concluded with the remarks by the Head of BTTN.
